Netflix coming to foxtel, Here is what you need to know

The early news came in the form of the new Foxtel remote which included a Netflix button.

The news is now official, and we have all of the juicy details for you.

From today Foxtel will begin rolling out its new software that offers an entirely upgraded interface. It's incredibly reminiscent of the aesthetic we're used to seeing in streaming services such as Netflix and Stan.

Market analysts said the meeting of the two television “frenemies” had the potential to “shake up the market,” and deliver an unexpected subscription windfall for streaming services.

Mr Delany confirmed Foxtel’s widely tipped but seemingly unlikely pairing with Netflix at its new Oxford Street venue, revealing viewers would be able to access the US streaming service directly through new menus coming to more than 1.1 million Foxtel iQ3 and iQ4 set-top boxes.

“Imagine if you just finished watching Big Little Lies... (and you thought) I want to watch something else. And, as we know, someone might say there’s another show, maybe on Netflix, to watch. Imagine if you could just simply press a button,” he said.

“Netflix has been completely integrated into a very deep way into the Foxtel experience.”

Netflix's content, according to a photo leak and rumours supplied to NewsCorp, will become available on Australia's largest pay-TV provider in the coming months and is expected to be confirmed at an event this week.

In the leaked photo, a Foxtel remote is shown to have a Netflix button, suggesting content from the global streaming giant will become available for Foxtel subscribers as well.

Users could potentially search for content with their voice, according to a picture of the remote indicating the inclusion of a microphone. Lifehacker Australia has reached out to Foxtel to confirm the news.
